The Salvation Army has provided care and compassion to those in need in Charlottesville.

How We Help

Every day, we help thousands of our neighbors. We offer unique, local programs designed to meet the specific needs of our community.

Our Soup Kitchen

Located in downtown Charlottesville, the Soup Kitchen provides more than 50,000 hot meals each year. This is in keeping with the mission of The Salvation Army, which is “to meet human needs without discrimination.” We are grateful to more than 30 local clubs, student groups, area churches, and their congregations/mission teams for providing food and volunteers to serve these meals through our kitchen, some for up to 40 years and more.

Dominion EnergyShare Bill Payment Assistance

This program is for any heating/cooling source within Dominion Virginia Power’s service territory. Using “Contact Us” or email does NOT reserve funds for this program. Applications must be submitted in person at our 207 Ridge Street office.

Payments go directly to energy vendors, and every cent donated benefits those in need because Dominion and The Salvation Army cover the program’s administrative expenses. Funds come from tax-deductible donations from customers, stockholders, employees, EnergyShare Partners, and Dominion.

Christmas Assistance

The Salvation Army recognizes that holidays can bring added financial and emotional stress for families in need. We offer various services to help families and individuals make it through more difficult holiday seasons. Information is posted on Christmas programs in late August/early September.
